243rd District Court
About Us
-
- MISSION STATEMENT
Each of the district courts in the County has jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases. The court sets hearings for pleas, arraignments, summary judgments, default judgments, pre-trial hearings and motions. The Court is headed by a State District Judge who is elected to a four-year term by the voters of El Paso County.
-
- GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
Goal: To serve the State of Texas, the County of El Paso and the general public more efficiently in all judicial matters in accordance with the laws of the state of Texas.
-
- Objective: To reduce the court docket through the use of mediation and pre-trial intervention programs when possible and to increase the efficiency of this court through automation used for preparing and tracking cases on the docket.
-
- The 243rd Judicial District Court is a court of general jurisdiction hearing criminal cases only as a result of an inter-court agreement with the 327th Judicial District Court. Pursuant to this agreement all civil cases previously designated 243rd are heard by the 327th District Court. All criminal cases previously designed 327th are heard by the 243rd District Court. The court's dockets includes about 700 active felony cases. The 243rd has pioneered the use of the Picture-Tel Venue System, which gives the court the capability to communicate with other Picture-tel systems, nation wide. The 243rd is already conducting arraignment hearing via Picture-Tel with the El Paso County Detention Facility and in the future, plans to expand to other hearings via Picture-Tel with the new Jail Annex.
