WHO: El Paso County Sheriff's Office (Region VIII Training Academy).

WHAT: Basic Detention Officer Graduation Ceremony.

WHERE: Ysleta Administrative Center (Auditorium), 9600 Sims, El Paso, Texas 79925.

WHEN: Friday, November 9, 2007 at 1:30 p.m.

WHY: Completion of a seven week Region VIII Training Academy.

FYI: Eleven detention officers will participate in the ceremony (9 males/2 Females).

The State of Texas requires only 96 hours of training for the Basic Detention Officer class. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office requires 280 hours of training.


All graduates from the Basic Detention Officer Course are assigned to either the Downtown Detention facility or the Jail Annex.


Detention Officers may choose one of two career paths: Detention or Law Enforcement.

To be eligible for a career in law enforcement, one must have worked as a detention officer for at least one year. Upon announcement of the Basic Peace Officer Academy, all eligible detention officers must compete for a position at the academy.


The entry salary for detention officer is $ 30,755.21
