WHAT: Motorcycle – Car accident.
WHERE: Intersection of King Palm Drive and Turner Avenue, East El Paso County, Texas.
WHEN: Friday, November 09, 2007 at approximately 7:36 a.m.
WHY: Under investigation.
FYI: Preliminary report: An SUV was turning right off of Turner onto King Palm Dr. A Sheriff's Deputy on his department issued motorcycle was traveling behind the SUV at a safe distance. As the SUV turned right, a male driver of a red 1996 Toyota Corolla pulled out onto the roadway from a gated mobile home community in front of the Deputy traveling west on Turner.
The deputy attempted to avoid the Toyota that pulled out in front him. As a result of the impact, the Deputy vaulted from the bike, rolled off the hood of the car and came to rest on the roadway. He was conscious and laying on the ground and called for assistance on his radio.
The Deputy was transported to a local hospital. He was treated and released. He reported back to duty yesterday (11/12/07).
The driver of the Toyota is identified as 34 year old Marcelino Ramirez of El Paso, Texas. Mr. Ramirez was issued two citations: 1) Fail to Yield Right of Way – turning left, and 2) Fail to Report Change of Address.
