WHO: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA)

WHAT: Two Separate CALEA Assessments at the Same Time!

WHERE: El Paso County Sheriff's Office Region VIII Training Academy  and El Paso County Sheriff's Office Communications (Dispatch) Section

WHEN: December 1-5, 2007

WHY: To verify that the Sheriff’s Office Meets the Commission’s State-of-the-Art Standards, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.

FYI: "Sheriff Samaniego sets high goals.  With his leadership we have the opportunity to be the first Sheriff's Office in Texas to achieve another first.  It is the highest standard in Public Safety to have four accreditations; law enforcement, detention, training and communication," said Chief Deputy Jimmy Apodaca, El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

The accreditation program requires our Office to comply with standards covering four basic areas: (1) policy and procedure, (2) administration, (3) operations, and (4) support services.

Members of the Community are invited to call in your comments, about our Training Academy and/or our Emergency Communications (Dispatch), to the Assessors.

Telephone comments are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. Copies of the standards are available at the Sheriff’s Office, 800 E Overland, third floor. Call Shirley Echols at 546-2217.
