WHAT: Traffic stop leads to discovery of almost 1-Million Dollars in CASH!
WHERE: I-10 West Mile Marker 45, East El Paso County, Texas.
WHEN: Friday, January 18, 2008 at approximately 2:45 PM
WHY: Under Investigation.
FYI: An El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 Freightliner Tractor Trailer. The driver was pulled over for weaving in and out of traffic.
The driver was acting suspicious and the Deputy requested back up. An El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy and his K-9 responded. The dog alerted to some items inside the rig. Deputies discovered several bundles of cash.
Detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s office - Special Operations Division were summoned to the scene. Based on size and weight Detectives estimate almost one-million dollars in cash has been confiscated. An official count will be conducted at a later time.
The name of the Hispanic driver (approximately 45 years old) is not being released at this time. An investigation into the discovery of the undeclared cash continues at this time.
Attempts will be made to update this case on Tuesday, January 22, 2008.
No other information is being released.
