Release Date & Time: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 10:00 AM
WHO: El Paso County Sheriff's Office (Patrol and Criminal Investigations Division).
WHAT: Aggravated Robbery.
WHERE: 12000 block of Socorro, Rd.
WHEN: Monday, February 11, 2008 at approximately 10:33 PM.
WHY: Operation Linebacker units patrolling the area come in contact with two possible
suspects in an Aggravated Robbery.
FYI: Deputies working Operation Linebacker (additional patrols) spot two subjects running northbound across Socorro Road into an embankment. Deputies engage in a foot pursuit and are notified by Sheriff’s dispatch that a Super Stop 12040 Socorro Rd. in San Elizario, Texas has just been robbed by two males armed with guns. Both were last seen fleeing on foot. The subjects refused to stop and a search was conducted by Sheriff’s Deputies, Sheriff’s K-9 tracking dog and Border Patrol Agents.
A Sheriff’s K-9 handler and his dog were able to find one suspect a Hispanic male in his late teens hiding in a ditch bank from law enforcement. The suspect remains in custody at this hour. His name is being withheld. A search for the second suspect continues.
According to reports on scene a store clerk informed the Sheriff’s Office that two males entered the Super Stop Convenience Store and took some property belonging to the store. The clerk then notified authorities of the Aggravated Robbery.
“This is a prime example of why our agency insists Operation Linebacker is a success. The additional patrols were able to saturate an area and make a crucial arrest,” said Sheriff Santiago “Jimmy” Apodaca, El Paso County, Texas.
“We have some leads in this case and hopefully by tomorrow we will be able to release additional information. The Linebacker units make a difference and community involvement in deterring crime will go along way in helping close this case,” said Sergeant Jim Belknap, Criminal Investigations Division, El Paso County Sheriff’s office.
No other information is being released today. We hope to update this case tomorrow.
