WHAT: Shooting

WHERE: 1200 block of Lakewood in Westway (Far west El Paso County, Texas).

WHEN: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at approximately 6:30 PM.

WHY: Under investigation.

FYI: Preliminary investigation: A male in his late teens was assaulted by several subjects near the Lakewood address. The extent of his injuries is unknown. The victim went home and informed a family member of the assault. The victim, male relative and a male friend went back to the Lakewood location to confront the alleged attackers.

An argument ensued and the male friend (Hispanic male early 20’s) was reportedly shot once in the lower abdomen during the second altercation. He was transported to R. E. Thomason General Hospital. His condition is unknown and his name is being withheld at this time.

Deputies were dispatched to a location off of Meadow were the injured male was seeking medical attention. An ambulance was summoned and transported him to Thomason. A description of the suspects (Hispanic males early 20’s) was obtained and Sheriff’s Deputies were able to locate several individuals matching that description near the original scene. They are currently being detained for questioning.

The identities of all of those involved are not being released at this time and no other information is being released this evening. An update is expected by 11:00 AM on Wednesday (2/13/08).
