WHERE: 15,000 block of Horizon.

WHEN: Sunday, February 17, 2008 at approximately 10:44 PM

WHY: Under investigation and no other information is being released at this time.

FYI: Sheriff’s units dispatched to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian resulting in death.

Preliminary investigation: The driver of blue 2005 Mercedes C240 was traveling east around the 15000 block of Horizon approaching the intersection with Ascencion. The driver is identified as 28 year old Pedro Manuel Luna of the 15000 block of Cactus Flower, El Paso, Texas.

At the time of the accident a pedestrian was attempting to cross Horizon from the north side to the south side and ran across Luna’s path of travel. The pedestrian was crossing in an area not designed for pedestrian traffic and an area that has no lighting. She was wearing dark pants and a black jacket.

Upon striking the pedestrian, Luna stopped to provide assistance and call the Sheriff’s Office. Luna attempted to provide medical assistance to the pedestrian who had suffered severe head trauma.

The deceased is identified as 45 year old Elizabeth Saenz Moreno of Juarez, Mexico.  

Speed and alcohol on the part of Luna was not a factor.

During the on scene investigation a male subject stopped by the scene and claimed to be looking for his girlfriend. The description he provided matched that of the pedestrian who had been struck and killed. They reportedly had been at a nearby bar drinking.

The formal autopsy report is still pending.

This is the first fatality investigated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in 2008.
