WHO: El Paso County Sheriff's Office (Region VIII Training Academy).

WHAT: Basic Detention Officer Course Graduation Ceremony.

WHERE: US Army Air Defense Artillery Center, “Soldiers Hall” 2 Sheridan Road.

WHEN: Friday, February 22, 2008 at 1:30 PM.

WHY: Completion of Region VIII Training Academy.

FYI: Twenty eight graduates will participate in the ceremony (26 males/2 Females).

The State of Texas requires 96 hours of training for the Basic Detention Officer class. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office requires 280 hours or seven weeks of training.

All graduates from the Basic Detention Officer Course are assigned to either the Downtown Detention facility or the Jail Annex.

Detention Officers may choose one of two career paths: Detention or Law Enforcement. To be eligible for a career in law enforcement, one must have worked as a detention officer for at least one year. Upon announcement of the Basic Peace Officer Academy, all eligible detention officers must compete for a position at the academy.

The entry salary for detention officer is $30,755.00
