On Sunday 04-13-08 at about 8:10 am, Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Tamara & Faith (Montana Vista area) in reference to a single motor vehicle accident roll-over. Deputies arrived moments later and discovered that there were no occupants in or around the vehicle. The vehicle had been left abandoned.

After a brief investigation, Deputies learned that 2 juvenile males who were driving the vehicle and fled the scene were at a nearby residence.

A Deputy Sheriff responded to a residence located at 5740 Mountain Sun attempting to locate the Juveniles. Upon arrival, Deputies made contact with a 16 year-old Juvenile male who was standing outside the residence. The Juvenile approached the Deputy and began to assault the Deputy.  Apparently during the struggle, the Juvenile was punching the Deputy with a sharp broken glass (broken bottle) causing the Deputy to suffer several cuts & lacerations to his face & neck area.

While struggling with the Juvenile, his mother exited the home and attempted to hinder the Deputy's attempts to subdue the Juvenile. During this time, the juvenile continued to lash out at the Deputy with a piece of broken glass. After struggling with the Juvenile & his mother they were both simultaneously subdued and handcuffed by the Sheriff's Deputy. Assisting Deputies arrived moments later.

While in custody the 16 year-old Juvenile also managed to kick out the back window of a patrol unit.

The identify of the 16 year-old Juvenile will not be released because of his age. He was placed under arrest for:

  • Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Criminal Mischief over $500 under &1500

He remains at the Juvenile Probation Department.

The Juveniles mother was identified as 37 year-old Helse Perez (DOB: 02-03-71).

She was charged with Interfering with Public Duties and remains at the El Paso County Detention Facility.
