Background:

On Sunday, 04-13-08 at about 1145hrs emergency services were called to TransMountain Rd. (westbound) Mile Post 20 in reference to a missing elderly male. The caller was a relative of the Male Victim who had been missing since Friday 04-11-08. Family members had not yet reported the 67 year-old male as missing but began to get worried so they went out looking for him. A family member found the Victim's 1970's model Chevrolet Monte Carlo parked on the unimproved shoulder on TMR west MP 20. The vehicle was found to be scorched inside and there were no signs of the Victim within the vicinity. The vehicle was parked next to a steep cliff / ravine. COMSAR services arrived and went down to the ravine searching the immediate area for the Victim.

The Victim was located about 100 feet - 1/4 of a mile down the cliff inside a cave. He suffered 3rd degree burns to of his hands & legs. He was immediately tended to and rescued out of the cave by COMSAR services.

El Paso County Sheriff's Detectives were summoned to the scene and are continuing the investigation. It is unknown at this time if the Victim was alone at the time of the incident.

The Victim is identified as Reyes Jaramillo Hernandez (DOB: 11-05-41)

The Victim remains at University Medical Burn Center in Lubbock, Texas where he remains in critical condition.

This case remains under investigation.
