WHY: Fugitive Caught

 INFORMATION: 

Late Friday afternoon, 06-13-08 at about 4:00 PM  while driving in the area of Americas & Alameda, an El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy recognized a sought after wanted suspect driving in a red BMW. The Deputy began following the suspect and coordinated his spotting of the suspect with other Sheriff's Officials in the area via radio. The Deputies followed the suspect to the area of I-10 near Bassett Center. Deputies caught up to the suspects vehicle as it began having mechanical problems & broke down in the area of I-10 east at Geronimo. The suspect quickly exited his vehicle and fled on foot across the busy Interstate in a desperate attempt to elude capture.  A Sheriff's Deputy ran after the suspect and chased him for about a mile until he was able to catch the suspect behind a convenience store located at the 6200 block of Edgemere. The suspect was identified as Michael Angelo Arellano (25).  Arellano was wanted on numerous outstanding criminal warrants: 1) Possession of Marijuana over 5 lbs-under 50 lbs $10,000 bond; 2) Possession of Marijuana over 50 lbs.-under 2000 lbs $66,000 bond; and 3) Aggravated Sexual Assault (out of the El Paso Police Dept) $50,000 bond. 4) 9 outstanding traffic warrants with EPSO / EPPD totaling $1,837.40

He was arrested and booked on all charges & remains at the El Paso County Detention Facility.
