INFORMATION:
Early Sunday morning, at approximately 6:20 AM, Sheriff Deputies observed a gray Chevrolet Tahoe traveling east on Rojas approaching East Lake. Deputies observed the vehicle was being driven erratically and was dragging some sort of large pipe, approximately 10 feet long. Sheriff Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the SUV but the driver refused to stop. A pursuit was initiated and the vehicle continued east Rojas and turned north on East Lake. The pursuit continued for approximately 3 ½ miles near East lake and Darrington where the driver finally stopped the SUV as two other Sheriff’s Office patrol units were awaiting with tire deflation spikes deployed.
The driver was taken into custody, arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Evading Detention with a motor vehicle.
The driver identified as Jose Luis Garibay (28) of the 11400 block of Delano Socorro, TX. A breathalyzer test revealed Garibay was 3 times over the legal drinking limit. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility and is currently out on bond.
At the time of the stop Deputies noticed that the driver had visible injuries. It is unknown if the driver had been involved in an altercation or a motor vehicle accident prior to the stop. The driver refused to provide any information about the injuries or if had struck anything while he was operating the vehicle.
