UPDATE:
Sheriff's Detectives are seeking to speak to any person who might have witnessed a vehicle driving recklessly / erratically or a police unit who may have been in pursuit of the said vehicle in the area of the 11100 block of Montwood on Saturday, August 16, 2008 just after 8:00 PM.

BACKGROUND:
EL Paso, TX- Late Saturday night 08-16-08 at 8:10 PM, Sheriff Deputies responded to the area of Montwood and Lee Alder El Paso, Texas in reference to Deputy Constable involved in a vehicle pursuit. Shortly after, Deputy Constable called out shots fired and subject down. He further requested El Paso Fire and EMS to his location for the subject.
El Paso Police Officers arrive and secure the scene. Deputies arrive a short time later and take over the scene. Sheriff's Detectives are also summoned to the scene.
Initial information received indicates a Deputy Constable was attempting to stop a 1995 white Chevrolet Monte Carlo / Suspect vehicle (for no headlamps) is traveling south on Lee Trevino approaching Montwood. Pursuit continues east on Montwood where the suspect vehicle came to a stop a few feet before the intersection of Lee Alder on the left hand turn lane. The suspect exited his vehicle and attempts to flee on foot. The Deputy Constable exits his unit & gives chase. At that point, a call out over the radio by the Deputy Constable notifies dispatchers that there have been "SHOTS FIRED". The Incident takes place in the middle of the westbound lanes of Montwood. It is unknown how many shots were fired & how it escalated to the point of "SHOTS FIRED". The Suspect was transported to a local Hospital for treatment. As of early this morning, the Suspect was out of surgery in stable condition. On 08-17-08 at 4:42 am, he was booked while at the hospital on charges of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant -$5000 BOND.
The suspect was identified as Juan Ortegon (34) of the 1700 block of Loanda, El Paso, TX 79928.
The Deputy Constable was identified as Mario Ramos (29) working out of Precinct 6.
SHOWN BELOW IS AN UPDATED BOOKING PHOTO OF SUBJECT ORTEGON. HE POSTED A $5,000 BOND AND WAS RELEASED ON MONDAY, AUGUST 25, 2008.
