UPDATE:

Deputy-2 FAR EAST EL PASO COUNTY, TX - Monday evening, 09-29-08 at about 6:22 PM Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the area of I-10 WEST Mile Post 61 in reference to a single vehicle roll-over with serious injuries. Deputies arrived minutes later along with First Responders & Fabens Fire Rescue.

Emergencies services found a Green 1996 Ford Explorer with significant damage. Several occupants of the SUV were quickly tended to by authorities. Deputies were able to locate two victims near the wreckage with no signs of life. Special Traffic Investigator's (STI) were summoned to the scene

According to eye-witnesses, the Ford Explorer pulling a flat bed trailer was traveling westbound on I-10. The SUV for unknown reason veered off to left shoulder, overcorrected to the right, crossed the left and right lanes and onto the right shoulder at which time the towed flatbed trailer disengaged. the SUV continued to travel west on the right shoulder, rolled over one time, continued to travel northwest off the road, rolled over approximately 4 more times and came to rest on its tires facing south. Traffic Investigator's noted the flat bed trailer & it's contents exceeded the towing capacity for the SUV which could also have led to the accident.

The SUV was occupied by 5 adults (2 males / 3 females). One male & One Female were deceased at the scene. The three other occupants were transported by ambulance to local hospitals in El Paso, TX. The SUV was displaying plates from Chihuahua, Mexico. All parties are from the city of  Chihuahua, Chihuahua Mexico. They were traveling from Kansas back home to Chihuahua.

The three surviving passengers were identified as:

  • Alejandrina Nava Miramontes (66) (driver’s wife)- did not sustain any fractures and was wearing a neck brace as a precaution, pending further results
  • Cristina Miramontes (57) (driver’s sister) - did not sustain any fractures and was pending to be discharged as soon as family arrived

The deceased were identified as:

  • Isidro Erives Hernandez (65) (driver)
  • Virginia Cordero Hernandez (55) (passenger)

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors but weight of the flatbed trailer (6000 pounds) is a possible factor.

Traffic Investigators were on scene several hours investigating the accident until early this morning.

No other information will be released at this time.
