Spring 2008 – broke ground however discovered underground utilities prevented further work.
Late Spring / Early Summer 2008 – Moved building west by approximately ten feet in order to avoid damaging underground utilities.
No county taxes were used to construct the Abandoned Motor Vehicle Building as the funding for the project derived from monies generated through the Abandoned Motor Vehicle Section. This program generates funding resulting from the concerted efforts of the Sheriff’s Office and Tow Service Companies in the County of El Paso. By complying with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; Tow Companies and the Sheriff’s Office work to remove vehicles that have been abandoned on county roads and highways. Through the legal process these vehicles are ultimately auctioned off and the money generated from these sales is used to reimburse tow companies for services rendered. The remaining money from these auctions is placed in the Abandoned Motor Vehicle account.
