WHY: ARREST MADE

MONTANA VISTA- Early Wednesday morning 02-25-09 at about 1:30 AM, a Deputy Sergeant was patrolling the area of the 14300 block of Montana when he observed a Silver Acura disregard a stop sign at a high rate of speed at the intersection of Las Casitas approaching Montana. The Sergeant attempted to pull over the vehicle but the driver refused to stop. The driver continued at a high rate of speed attempting to elude the Sergeant driving through several streets reaching speeds of approximately 85 MPH. The driver failed to negotiate the stop sign at Krag and Greg where he drove into the desert area about 200 feet until the vehicle got stuck in the soft sand. The driver exited his vehicle and ran off into the desert in a desperate attempt to get away. The Sergeant gave chase & eventually caught up to the driver where he continued to put up a struggle. The Sergeant was finally able to subdue the suspect & take him into custody. The Sergeant immediately detected a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage emitting from the suspect’s breath & person. The driver was placed under arrest for EVADING DETENTION IN A MOTOR VEHICLE & RESISTING ARREST (DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED (MINOR) - CHARGES AE PENDING). The suspect was identified as HECTOR HERNANDEZ (20) of the 800 block of Agua Mineral El Paso County, TX. HERNANDEZ remains incarcerated at the El Paso County Detention Facility.
