EL PASO, TX- Thursday evening 03-12-2009 at about 5:30 PM, Strike Team Deputies were patrolling the area near the 12100 block of Socorro road when they noticed a red Polaris All Terrain Vehicle (Quad ATV) traveling at a high rate of speed westbound in the same area of Socorro Rd. Deputies noticed an adult male driving the ATV with two small children sitting in front of him between his legs, placing the children in an unreasonable risk of harm or bodily injury. Deputies also noticed neither the driver nor children passengers were wearing helmets or any type of protective gear.
Deputies observed heavy traffic & several pedestrians in the area due to the time of day when the general public gets off work and certain activities at schools. The 12100 block of Socorro road is a two way roadway with one lane traveling east and one lane traveling west and is known to be a dangerous roadway to travel.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the ATV & made contact with the driver. While talking to the driver, Deputies discovered the passengers were ages 4 (drivers son) & 7 (drivers cousin). The driver told authorities he had just fixed the ATV and took the children with him to fill the tank with fuel. Deputies noticed the location of the gas station where the driver stated he was headed to was 3 miles away.
