WHY: ARREST MADE
WESTWAY, TX- Sunday night 03-22-09 at about 8:30 PM, Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Malmo Rd & De Alva Rd in Westway, TX reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Deputies arrived moments later to find West Valley Fire First Responders tending to an individual who had just been struck by a vehicle.
Further investigation by on scene Deputies revealed that a White Ford pick-up truck traveling south on De Alva struck a pedestrian while walking next to the roadway. According to a witness, after the truck hit the pedestrian, it reversed then proceeded to drive away when the witness gave chase & managed to stop the driver from fleeing & called 911. Responding Deputies arrived & immediately took the driver into custody.
Upon making contact with the driver, Deputies immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver & noticed he was highly intoxicated.
The driver was identified as JORGE CUELLAR (49) of the 1300 block Malmo Westway, TX. He was charged and arrested for INTOXICATED ASSAULT. He was booked and remains at the El Paso County Detention Facility.
The Victim was identified as AGUSTIN RODRIGUEZ (42) of Westway, TX. He was transported to Thomason Hospital with several injuries.
