WHY: HOME DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS

SAN ELIZARIO, TEXAS- Wednesday morning 4-15-09 at about 7:58 AM, Deputies were dispatched to a residence located at 13361 Yebra Aniz in reference to a structure fire. Deputies along with the San Elizario Fire Department arrived on scene and found the interior of the home fully engulfed in flames. Deputies closed off the streets as San Elizario volunteer firefighters began battling the blaze.
San Elizario Fire Rescue requested the assistance of both the Clint & Fabens Fire Departments who arrived to assist a short time later.
During the fire, a Sheriff’s Deputy on scene observed a small rabbit enter & exit the home as the fire continued. The Deputy learned the rabbit was a family pet & proceeded to quickly enter the residence & rescue the rabbit.
The home was not occupied at the time of the fire. A family of 4 lived at the residence (2 adults / 2 teenagers). The homeowners do not have insurance coverage for the residence. The home was deemed a total loss.
The Red cross was summoned to the scene & assisted the family.
San Elizario Fire Incident Commander advised authorities the cause of the fire was electrical which ignited in a furnace room that led to the attic.
NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED FROM THE SCENE OF THE FIRE.
