EVENT: TRAFFIC FATAL UPDATE

RESULT: VICTIM IDENTIFIED
FABENS, TX- Wednesday afternoon 05-06-09 at about 4:30 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of the 3550 S. Fabens / Carlsbad Rd. in reference to a 2 vehicle accident with serious injuries. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived minutes later to find a blue 2000 GMC Sierra pick-up truck & a green 2001 Ford Focus with extensive damage. Both vehicles were driven by females (sole occupants). Due to the seriousness of the injuries, Special Traffic Investigators (STI’s)were summoned to the scene.
Preliminary investigation by STI’s determined the green Ford Focus driven by a 21 year-old female was traveling north on S. Carlsbad Rd. as the blue GMC pickup driven by a 19 year-old female was traveling south. For unknown reasons, the driver of the green focus veered left onto the southbound lane colliding with the pickup truck. Both drivers were transported to University Hospital with life threatening injuries.
Late Wednesday night, the 21 year-old driver of the green focus was pronounced dead at University Hospital due to her injuries.
The deceased was identified as Priscilla Lopez (21) of San Elizario, TX.
The driver of the GMC pick-up was identified as Susana Gonzalez-Amaya (18) of Fabens, TX. She remains at University hospital in stable condition.
AT THIS TIME ALCOHOL OR SPEED ARE NOT FACTORS IN THIS ACCIDENT.
THIS FATAL ACCIDENT MARKS THE 5TH FATALITY OUTSIDE OF THE CITY LIMITS IN 2009.
