EL PASO COUNTY, TX – Over the weekend, Sheriff’s Deputies had a walk-in at the Vinton station in regarding a kidnapping. Deputies made contact with the reporter / Victim who told authorities that on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 9:00 PM- she and her two year-old son were abducted by her husband with whom she is currently separated with. According to the Victim, she was at a local restaurant eating dinner & when she was leaving, she noticed her husband taking several photos of them. It was learned the husband also has an active PROTECTIVE ORDER against him for a previous ASSAULT on the Victim requiring him to stay away from the Victim’s residence, place of employment or have any contact with her.
The Victim told authorities she began traveling on I-10 east and noticed her husband was following her but lost sight of his vehicle a short time later. The Victim reportedly drove into a gas station at the 7000 block of Delta when suddenly her husband / Suspect drove into the service station and exited his vehicle removing their 2 year-old son from the seat. At that point the husband threatened the Victim stating he would harm her & their son if she did not get into his vehicle. Fearing for her safety & the safety of her son, the Victim then entered his vehicle.
The Victim’s mother reported her daughter & grandson missing a few days later on 05-08-09. The Victim stated she and her son were taken to an unknown residence in Juarez, Mexico where they remained until 05-09-09. Information received indicates while at the residence in Juarez, the Victim was once again assaulted by her husband. The Victim managed to get into contact with her mother by cell phone who traveled to Juarez & retrieved her daughter & grandson (details still unknown).
On 05-10-09 at 9:30 AM, Deputies received a tip the Suspect / Husband was back in El Paso, TX. Upper Valley Deputies with an arrest warrant in hand went to a residence in the 200 block of Vista Bonita El Paso, TX in an attempt to located the suspect / husband. Deputies located the Suspect in the residence where he surrendered to Deputies without incident. The Victim’s vehicle was retrieved by family members, it was still parked at the Chevron service station.
The Suspect / Husband was identified as FERNANDO LOPEZ JR.(25) of the 200 block of Vista Bonita El Paso, TX. Lopez was booked and remains at the El Paso County Detention Facility.
