HORIZON CITY, TX– Early Monday afternoon 05-18-09 at about 2:15 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Horizon Middle School located at the 400 block N. Kenazo El Paso County, TX in reference to an injury to a child. Deputies arrived and met with school officials who advised them that an outcry had been made by an 11 year-old student / Victim stating his mother had assaulted him by hitting him with a hammer to his left calf. According to the young Victim the incident took place over the weekend on Saturday 05-16-09. While talking to Deputies, the Victim told authorities his mother had previously threatened him with a handgun.
Further information provided to Sheriff’s Officials revealed 6 other brothers and sisters aside from the Victim were living at the residence & living conditions were not good. At about 4:20 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a followed up at the residence located in the 100 block of Kila El Paso County, TX. Deputies made contact with the 34 year-old mother. Upon entry to the main area of the residence, Deputies observed the house to be in deplorable living condition, dirty and unkept. Deputies went on to find pieces of excrement on the floor.
Consent to search the home was sought & obtained. Deputies were able to locate and recover a hammer later identified as the weapon used in the assault. Deputies were also able to locate & recover a black 357 .38 Special revolver. CID Detectives made contact with Child Protective Services to find that the mother had previously been investigated in July 2002.
After an extensive investigation, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested the 34 year-old mother charging her with AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON. The mother was identified as ANGELICA BARRON (34). She was booked at the El Paso County Detention Facility and is currently out on bond.
THE IDENTITY OF THE 11 YEAR-OLD VICTIM WILL NOT BE RELEASED BECAUSE OF HIS AGE.
THIS INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING & MORE CHARGES MAY BE PENDING.
