EVENT: HIT & RUN ACCIDENT ACCIDENT RESULTS IN FATALITY / VICTIM IDENTIFIED
LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: Intersection of the 7900 block of Doniphan & 100 block of Holguin Canutillo, TX

RESULT: VICTIM IDENTIFIED
CANUTILLO, TX– Late Sunday night 07-05-09 at 11:15 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with serious injuries involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Doniphan & Holguin. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived moments later to find a male subject / unresponsive with serious injuries lying near a 2008 Red Harley Davidson at the north corner of Holguin Ave. The motorcycle was laying on its right side, facing northwest. A second vehicle was nowhere to be found leaving the scene prior to authorities arrival. West Valley Fire Medics along with Life Ambulance arrived at the scene where they began tending to the injured male / Victim. The Victim was transported to the West Valley Fire Station located at 510 E. Vinton in preparation to be airlifted by Southwest Medivac to a local hospital. The Victim succumbed to his injuries & died at the scene before being airlifted.
STI’s were summoned to the scene are continuing with the investigation. At this point, it appears the motorcycle was traveling north on Doniphan & the second vehicle was apparently traveling west on Holguin Ave & entered the intersection where the motorcycle violently impacted with the vehicle. Official STI reports are pending.
The deceased (driver of the motorcycle) has been identified as 38 year-old JUAN ANTONIO CONTRERAS of the 300 block of Miller Anthony, NM.
The second vehicle involved is said to be possibly a pick-up truck. If anyone has any information regarding this Fatal Accident or knows who was driving the second vehicle involved. STI’s are urging them to call Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 566-TIPS (8477). Callers will remain anonymous & may be eligible for a reward if the information provided leads to the resolution of this case.
THIS MARKS THE 7TH FATAL ACCIDENT OUTSIDE EL PASO CITY LIMITS.
AN AUTOPSY REPORT IS PENDING TO DETERMINE EXACT CAUSE OF DEATH.
