Combined Law Enforcement Explorer Academy

El Paso, Texas- On Monday, July 6, 2009, for the 1st time ever, a Historic Explorer Academy commenced at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Region VIII Training Academy. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso Police Department & U.S. Border Patrol Explorer Programs combined their academies in preparation for National Competitions which take place July 2010. The academy will be taking place all week from July 6-10, 2009 at the Sheriff’s Training Academy located at 12501 Montana El Paso, TX & other remote locations.

Details:

  • 70 explorers are signed up to attend.
  • The first three days of the academy will consist of classroom teaching and practical on the following topics: handcuffs
    • Domestic Violence
    • Traffic Stops
    • Bomb Threats
    • Crisis Negotiations Training
    • Burglary in Progress
    • Arrest and Search
    • Crime Scene Investigation
    • Crime Prevention
  • Thursday and Friday will be competition. Half the group will be transported to Valley View Middle School where they will participate in all 9 events and physical agilities. The other half will stay and get basic training on First Aid, CPR, and First Responder training. (Groups will alternate.)
