EVENT: Car Burglar caught at University Medical Center

University Medical Center- Late Tuesday night 07-14-09 at 10:27 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to University Medical Center of El Paso located at 4815 Alameda in El Paso County TX in reference a burglary of vehicle that had just occurred. Deputies arrived minutes later and made contact with the Reporter / victim who told Deputies that at about 10:15 PM, he and his wife were walking back to their blue color Honda Prelude which was parked on the first floor hospital parking garage. The Victim stated they observed a male subject / Offender close to their vehicle allegedly looking for a dog. The Victim stated as he approached his vehicle, he observed the driver side door open and some of his belongings that were located inside of the vehicle’s trunk located out in front of his vehicle. The Victim immediately turned to the direction of the subject looking for his dog and observed him run towards the hospital. The Victim went on to locate his car stereo on the ground 3 parking spots away from his vehicle next to a red duffle bag. The Victim then contacted the Hospital security and informed them of the incident. Hospital Security staff were able to locate & detain a subject matching the description provided by the Victim of the subject he encountered in the garage. The subject was later positively by the Victim.
Surveillance video showed the offender breaking in to vehicle & removing items from the truck. Surveillance video also showed the Offender carrying the red duffle bag & concealing the duffle bag under a vehicle. Deputies arrested & charged the offender with BURGLARY OF VEHICLE. The offender was identified as ARTURO RODRIGUEZ (22) of Half Moon St. El Paso, TX. After his arrest RODRIGUEZ stated; “the guy asked for it because he left his car open” and also stated his intentions were only to take the car stereo because the rest of the items were useless. RODRIGUEZ remains incarcerated at the El Paso county Detention Facility.
