RESULT: Victim identified / Investigation continues
EL PASO COUNTY, TX- Late Thursday evening 10-01-09 at about 6:15 Pm, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Montana Ave and Krag in reference to a motor vehicle accident with serious injuries. Deputies arrived moments later to find blue Dodge Magnum & a blue GMC Yukon with extensive damage to both vehicles. Deputies along with the Montana Vista Fire Rescue quickly tended to the injured. The Dodge Magnum was occupied by 2 females (19 year-old driver driver / 15 year-old passenger) - emergency crews found the 15 year-old front passenger unresponsive with no signs of life. The 54 year-old female driver of the GMC Yukon was found with serious leg injuries. The Yukon was also occupied by a front passenger (34 year-old female) & 2 children ages 4 & 7 who not seriously injured but were shaken up- all transported to Del Sol Medical Center for medical evaluation. Special Traffic Investigator’s (STI) were summoned to the scene.
Preliminary investigation by STI’s indicates the blue 2005 Dodge Magnum was traveling westbound at the 14400 block of Montana approaching the intersection of Krag which then made a left turn onto Krag to proceed south, but failed to yield the right of way to the blue 2000 GMC Yukon which was traveling east approaching the same intersection. The GMC Yukon violently impacted the right passenger side of the Dodge Magnum.
The 15 year-old front passenger of the Dodge Magnum was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of her injuries. She was identified as ELIZA FLORES (15) of the 3700 block of Vanderveer El Paso County, TX.
The 19 year-old driver of the Dodge Magnum who was identified as DESIREE MCKAY (19)-was transported to University Medical Center by Life Ambulance.
The 54 year-old driver of the GMC Yukon was identified CARMEN CASILLAS. All other passengers will not be identified at this time.
STI’s ARE CONTINUING WITH THE INVESTIGATION / CHARGES ARE PENDING.
FAILING TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY IS THE PRIMARY FACTOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT.
SPEED & ALCOHOL DO NOT APPEAR FACTORS IN THIS ACCIDENT.
THIS MARKS THE 11th TRAFFIC FATALITY OUTSIDE EL PASO CITY LIMITS FOR 2009.
