EVENT:  TRAFFIC ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIFE OF 82  YEAR OLD  ELDERLY MALE

LOCATION OF OCCURRENCE: 15300 block of Horizon Blvd. El Paso County, TX

DATE / TIME: Saturday, October 17, 2009  5:20 PM

RESULT:  Victim identified / Investigation continues

EPCSO STIEL PASO COUNTY, TX-  Late Saturday afternoon 10-17-09 at 5:20 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies along with the Horizon Police Dept. were dispatched to the area of the 15300 block of Horizon Blvd, El Paso County TX in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. Officials arrived a short time later to find an elderly male lying on the roadway near a black Mitsubishi Eclipse which had damage to the front of the vehicle. Special Traffic Investigator’s (STI) were summoned to the scene.

Life Ambulance arrived moments later & began treating the elderly male. A short time later, authorities received word the elderly male passed away while being transported to a local hospital.

Preliminary investigation by STI’s indicate the black 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by a 24 year-old male (will not be identified) was traveling eastbound on Horizon approaching the 15300 block as the Victim, an 82 year-old male was attempting to walk across Horizon Blvd (southbound). The Victim was not crossing the street at a designated cross walk and attempted to cross the street in heavy traffic.

The Victim was identified as ESTANISLAO MARTINEZ (82) of the 400 block of Las Palomas Horizon City, TX.

The Victim died as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident.

CORRECTION: Initial information received indicated the Victim was 87 years of age but after confirming identity the age of the deceased was said to be 82.

STI’s ARE CONTINUING WITH THE INVESTIGATION / CHARGES ARE NOT PENDING AT THIS TIME.

SPEED & ALCOHOL DO NOT APPEAR FACTORS IN THIS ACCIDENT.

THIS MARKS THE 12th TRAFFIC RELATED FATALITY OUTSIDE EL PASO CITY LIMITS FOR 2009.
