EL PASO COUNTY, TX- Late last week, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office conducted Operation Flood. The operation was spearheaded by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Strike Team, but was in conjunction with Deputies from the following Bureaus of the Office, Criminal Investigations, Patrol, Support Services and Special Operations. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office also partnered with the Texas Department of Public Safety, Horizon Police Department, and the Office of the Constable (Precinct 2, 4, and 6) for this operation.
The operation was a surge effort in which an area of El Paso County was selected and saturated with a Police presence to deter and suppress criminal activity. The Horizon area was the area selected for the 1st wave of enforcement. The operation brought increased patrols by marked units to both residential and commercial areas. Traffic and radar enforcement were also keys components of the operation. Undercover Deputies conducted surveillance in areas known for high levels of narcotics and other criminal activity. The Texas Department of Public Safety supported the operation by providing aerial surveillance and air support for ground units.
As a direct result of the operation:
390 calls were handled by Operation Flood Units
216 traffic citations were issued
46 warnings were issued for non hazardous traffic violations
23 people were arrested for various offenses.
In all, each day the operation was conducted there were a minimum of 25 additional units working within the affected area.
Dates and times of the operation will not be released as several investigations commenced during the operation are still ongoing. The operation will have follow up waves of enforcement throughout El Paso County. Dates of future operations will also not be revealed for operational reasons.
