EL PASO TEXAS- On 01-19-13 at approximately 3:25 PM a Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the 500 block of Little Apalooza, Tornillo, TX, in reference to a dog bite.  Upon arrival Fabens Volunteer Fire Department was providing aid to a 67 year old female bitten by a white and brown dog/Pit bull.

Further investigation revealed the victim reached for an item located near the dog’s litter 5-week old puppies when the victim was attacked by the dog.  The victim suffered left arm superficial lacerations and a partial amputated left thumb.  Deputies on scene were able to recover the victim’s partial thumb and the victim was transported to a local area hospital by Life Ambulance.

The loose dog continued to roam aggressively on the property when it charged at the Deputy conducting the investigation.  The Deputy discharged his firearm to prevent from being attacked as he and other people were in the immediate area.  The dog was struck and located shortly after where the dog was put down as a humanitarian measure.  The EPCSO-Animal Control Unit was summoned to the scene who followed up with the owner of the dog, victim’s grandson.
