EL PASO TEXAS-On 02-17-13 Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 9000 block of Curtis Dr. (Westway area) in reference to a structure fire.
Deputies arrived to find a storage shed located at the southeast corner of the residence fully engulfed. Further investigation revealed the homeowner and his 18 year old son were at the residence when the fire occurred. It was determined the 18 year old son was igniting “Black Cat Little Dynamite” fireworks when a patch of grass near the shed caught fire. West Valley Fire Department was summoned and extinguished the fire.
The valued loss was estimated at approximately $500 and the homeowner was not insured for the loss. The homeowner stated the shed contained seasonal items and miscellaneous tools. The residence sustained exterior corner damage due to the heavy smoke. No one was injured as a result of the fire.
