EL PASO TEXAS- The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Section concluded its 3rd 2013 Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant for the 4th of July Holiday. Enforcement began June 28th and ended Sunday, July 7th. The below are results from the enforcement period. Officers worked a total of 160 hours to keep impaired drivers off Texas roadways and enforce any other traffic violations observed. The grant, through the Texas Department of Transportation, allowed for the increase of patrol officers within El Paso County to enforce such efforts, to reduce the number of fatal or serious injury collisions during times where alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.
Hazardous= Disregard stop sign, red light, speeding etc.
Non-Hazardous= Expired registration, No Driver’s License, etc.
Drinking and driving injures or kills Texas drivers everyday every 20 minutes.
The Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens that El Paso County is part of the “NO REFUSAL” program which allows jurisdictions to obtain a search warrant(s) for blood samples from suspected impaired drivers who refuse breath tests.
TXDOT SAFETY TIPS:
