On 01-13-14 at about 7:00pm, Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to I-10 west mile marker 38 in reference to a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Upon arrival deputies observed two vehicles in the middle of I-10 West blocking both lanes. The investigation revealed that a grey Kia Soul was traveling west on I-10, when for unknown reasons, the Kia went off the roadway and struck a guard rail. The Kia then spun and ended up on I-10 west facing the wrong way. A grey Ford Mustang, driven by a 28 year old male, then crashed into the Kia head on. Both vehicles had single occupants and both were transported to Del Sol Hospital with injuries. I-10 had to be shut down for about an hour.

Deputies later conducted a follow up investigation at the hospital and were informed that the 88 year old driver of the Kia was in critical condition. Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators (STI) were then notified. Investigators conducted an investigation and were advised at about midnight that the 88 year old driver had passed away. No cause of death was given but it was known that the 88 year old driver had several health issues. The driver of the Mustang had a broken ankle along with other minor injuries.

*The name of the 88 year old deceased male was identified as Jack Hanson Neff of Midland Texas. It is unknown what his destination was when the crash occurred.
