NEWS RELEASE-Special Event 08-04-14

The Sheriff’s Office reached out to the community and invited children to participate in Sheriff’s Safety town recently. It consisted of buildings, cross walks, and stop signs to help promote bicycle and traffic safety. This annual event was also used to provide important safety tips on subjects like: gun safety, fire safety, stranger danger, and general traffic safety. The town was set up at the Lowe’s parking lot (11950 Rojas) the first part of the week and then moved to the Sheriff’s Office headquarters parking lot. This year, about 20 children from all over El Paso participated in this event. The Horizon City volunteer Fire Department brought a fire truck and put on a presentation about fire safety. A representative from University Medical Center gave a presentation on bicycle safety and passed out bicycle helmets for the children. One of our K-9 Deputies also brought his dog and gave a presentation to the children on the uses of a police dog. At the end of the week, the Sheriff’s Safety town event ended with a graduation ceremony for the children that included.
