El Paso, TX - The El Paso County Sheriff’s office responded to 8300 block of Doniphan Dr. in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a train and an 18-wheeler Thursday, November 19th, 2015 at 9:15 am.

Upon arrival the Sheriff’s Office deputies observed an 18-wheeler had been hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train. The 18-wheeler was traveling southbound on Doniphan Dr, the 18-wheeler made a right turn over the railroad tracks and attempted to enter a into a private driveway. As the 18-wheeler made its turn it was hit by the train also traveling southbound.

Driver of the 18-wheeler had disregarded a railroad crossing devise/ stop sign which led to the impact with the train.

Driver of the 18-wheeler and train were transported to local area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Sheriff's Office Special Traffic Investigators responded to the accident. Doniphan Dr. was closed southbound for approximately three hours.

No further information will be released at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
