Each year near Halloween the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office conducts inspections of registered sex offenders homes specifically to ensure that they are not displaying any type of decorations which may tend to allure or attract children to their residence.

On Tuesday, October 25th, 2016, the Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit along with Sheriff’s Deputies from Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit and Warrants Section conducted inspections and verifications of 80 homes registered as Sex Offenders, who have a stipulation of their parole or probation which prohibits them from displaying any type of decorations. Of the 80 homes that were inspected, 2 were found to be in violation the information was forwarded to their respective probation officers for further investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office wishes to remind everyone to exercise caution and safety this Halloween, never allow children to go out on their own, stay in groups and always have an adult with them. Wear bright reflective clothing and carry a flashlight and cell phone with you. Avoid any homes that are off a main roadway. Discard any unwrapped treats, and report any suspicious activity. Stay alert and aware of your surroundings. Remember the safety and protection of children is everyone’s responsibility.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has a Sex Offender website available to the public;   https://records.txdps.state.tx.us/sexoffender/
