El Paso, Texas - El Paso County Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a new set of county-wide animal regulations on Monday, October 24, 2016.

The new regulations will affect pet owners in the El Paso County. These new regulations will not impact pet owners in the City of El Paso or other municipalities subject to those city/municipalities regulations and ordinances.

            The new animal regulations will:

· Establish a local rabies control program under the Texas Health & Safety Code.

· All pet owners will have to have their pets registered.

· Require pet owners to keep pets from running at large.

· Require pet owners to keep pets on a leash at all times while outside their residence.

· Prohibit the ownership of “dangerous animals” like coyotes, wolves, bobcats, etc.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office currently handles animal control in unincorporated

areas of the county.

All regulations become effective November 1st, 2016, with the exception of the sections referencing registration required, and collar & tags required, those will become effective October 1st, 2017.
