RECAP - SHERIFF’S OFFICE

SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM SCHOOL

February 12, 2019

El Paso, TX - The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Region VIII Academy hosted an SRT (Special Response Team) School, February 4 - 8, 2019.

The SRT School provided the 40 participants with training that will prepare the officer in restoring order in a correctional facility including One Man Cell Extractions, Two Man Tactics extractions, Mobile Field Force and Hostage and Rescue. This term instructors concentrated on providing officers with the latest tactics and concepts to implement when they are faced with deescalating civil disturbances inside and outside of a corrections setting.

Students from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, El Paso County Constables, Department of Homeland Security – Ice Detention Camp, Otero – New Mexico Prison Facility, and Brazil Police Team completed the course with 100% completion rate.

The Sheriff’s Office Detention Facilities, Region VIII Academy Firing Range, and Ascarate Park were used as training locations throughout the week.

These Special Response Schools are a continuing relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and correctional departments nationwide and internationally. Officers from Arizona, Florida, New Mexico, and Brazil continue to attend these schools and return to their workplace better prepared to face the everyday challenges presented in correctional settings. Most recently, tactics learned at Sheriff’s Office Special Response Schools were put into practice as Brazilian correctional officers prepared for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
