RELEASE: SCAM ALERT – FUNDRAISING FOR DEPUTY HERRERA

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has become aware of scams surrounding the passing of our brother Deputy Peter Herrera.

The scammers are calling individuals asking for donations to benefit Deputy Herrera’s family in the form of gift cards.

The only two legitimate fundraising campaigns at this time are the online fundraising campaigns organized by Adrian Gonzales on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Officers Association.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to make the public aware that representatives of the Sheriff’s Office will not solicit donations over the phone much less in the form of gift cards.

If you wish to make a monetary donation use one of the two links provided.

If anyone has any questions regarding donations please contact Sheriff’s Office Public Affairs Director – Chris Acosta at 915-479-0797.

On behalf of Sheriff Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, we want to thank EVERYONE for their prayers and continued support for Deputy Herrera, his wife, family, friends, and colleagues.
