SHERIFF’S OFFICE OFFERS FLAG RETIREMENT BOX TO COUNTY RESIDENTS

January 27, 2020

El Paso, TX – In partnership with the National Association of Counties and the National Flag Foundation, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has installed a flag retirement box, at no cost to the county, in the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters main lobby.

The United States Flag Code flag etiquette — when the flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem of display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

This drop-off location provides residents convenience while respectfully retiring an American flag. The flag retirement box is located in the lobby at Sheriff’s Office Headquarters located at 3850 Justice Dr. Flags should be folded respectfully before being placed in the box.

“We are pleased to provide these flag retirement boxes. Helping residents properly dispose of worn U.S. flags is consistent with our commitment to public service and community engagement.” - NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase.
