Continuing community engagement this Holiday Season

El Paso, Texas On December 21st, 2021, as part of the continuing community engagement efforts by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies and Detectives of the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station, met with the Diaz family in San Elizario, Texas. Deputies provided donations and purchased appliances to assist the family during this winter season. On Christmas Eve, the deputies returned and provided the family with dinner and Christmas gifts to celebrate the holidays.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON THE BLOCK OF 10600 GATEWAY EAST

UPDATE: El Paso Texas- Interstate 10 is now open. Gateway east will remain closed for approximately 2 more hours.

El Paso, Texas On December 27, 2021, at approximately 8:30 am, The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident on the 10600 block of gateway east. The passenger was transported to a local area hospital and the driver was declared deceased on the scene. Gateway is shut down for approximately 4 hours, interstate 10 will be shut down for approximately one hour. Detouring traffic on to Nuevo Waco Tanks, to North Loop, to Horizon Blv., and back to interstate 10 east. No further information at this time.

TOY DRIVE AT HAPPINESS SENIOR CENTER

December 22, 2021

El Paso, Texas On December 20th, 2021, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Community Services along with Commander Ryan Urrutia attended a Toy Drive Hosted By the folks at Happiness Senior Center. For the past 8 years, our friends at the center gather new toys for the children in the County of El Paso. They have a dance group that likes to dance to Christmas songs and invite the deputies to be part of the show. The Sheriff’s Office is very proud and thankful to these organizations that have come together to give back to our El Paso County. Together we can make a difference and help put some smiles on many faces. Christmas of 2021 is made better for struggling families.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON ALAMEDA AVE.

December 21, 2021

El Paso, Texas On December 21, 2021, at 7:30 am, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident on the 13800 block of Alameda Ave. Preliminary investigation shows for an unknown reason the vehicle veered across traffic and hit an electric pole. There were no signs of life, the driver was identified as Maria Luisa Macedo, 73 years of age. The case is still under investigation, no further information at this time.

ELUSIVE CONCEPTS CAR CLUB TOY DRIVE

El Paso, Texas On December 18th 2021, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Community Services along with Commander Ryan Urrutia attended a Car Show Toy Drive hosted by Elusive Concepts Car Club at the Ascarate Park. Sheriff’s Office has been very fortunate to have several organizations help with Santa with a Badge Toy Drive. Participants and community people donated toys for the County of El Paso children. The Sheriff’s Office is very proud and thankful to these organizations that have come together to be so generous to all these El Paso County Children that are now more in need than ever.

TRAFFIC STOP ARREST – ISRAEL RUBIO

El Paso, Texas On Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 7:48 pm, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Peter J Herrera Patrol Station were dispatched to Gateway East and Horizon Blvd. in reference to a suspicious vehicle attempting to conduct a traffic stop, using red and blue lights. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a Chrysler 300 with red and blue lights, which was not a law enforcement vehicle. Upon further investigation, the driver Israel Rubio, 21 was taken into custody for Impersonating a Public Servant, and narcotics were also found in his possession. Rubio was booked into the El Paso County Detention for the following charges:

· Impersonating Public Servant under a bond of $7,500

· MAN DEL CS PG 1>= 4G<200G under a bond of $10,000

NEWS RELEASE: El Paso, Texas – On Friday, December 17, 2021 at 10:09 am El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Peter J Herrera Patrol Station were dispatched to the 1400 block of Darrington Rd., El Paso County, Texas in reference to Aggravated Assault. Deputies received information that Suspect, Edward Tomas Moore, 34 shot a firearm at a resident and a vehicle in the desert area near the 600 Block of Endwall.  With the assistance of Horizon Police Department, Moore was located and taken into custody.  Moore was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for the following charges:

Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon under a bond of $5,000

Aggravated Assault w/Deadly Weapon under a bond of $50,000

El Paso, Texas The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office continues to receive calls from El Paso citizens harassed by scammers impersonating various local entities in an attempt to monetarily defraud their victims. Entities include Sheriff’s Office, Social Security Office, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Office, El Paso Electric, Internal Revenue, the El Paso District Clerk’s Office, and various non-profit organizations. The scammer/offender identifies themselves as a representative from any one of these organizations and then claims that the individual/victim has ignored one of the following: Social Security investigation, jury duty summons, unpaid tickets, warrants, or court summons. The individual/victim is then advised to make a payment to resolve the matter.

The Sheriff’s office would also like to remind citizens that they will never be contacted by phone requesting payment for missed jury duty summons, unpaid tickets, or outstanding criminal warrants. Additionally, citizens are encouraged NOT to exchange any personal or financial information over the phone. The public can call the Sheriff’s Office Warrants Unit to confirm if there is an outstanding warrant in their name by calling 915-546-2214. Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus visiting Sheriff's Office Headquarters

NEWS RELEASE: The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will have some special visitors stopping by at Sheriff’s Office Headquarters 3850 Justice Dr.  Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus are stopping by at 11:30 am to drop off toys for the county children.  Sheriff’s Office is very thankful to Lily Mendoza from NCH Marketing Services who coordinated a toy drive at the business.  All employees were happy to help by donating a toy for the little ones.

Human Traffickers arrested

NEWS RELEASE: El Paso, Texas – On December 1, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office East Montana Patrol deputies responded to the intersection of Horizon Blvd and Jackrabbit Dr. in reference to a welfare check. Upon arrival, deputies met with three subjects that stated they had escaped through the window of a residence where they were being held for three days without food and water. Deputies conducted a follow up on the 200 block of South Ascencion Ave and found an additional five subjects being smuggled into the United States by human traffickers. United States Border Patrol responded to the scene and took custody of eight individuals. Through the course of the investigation, detectives from the East Montana Patrol Station identified the traffickers as Martha Salas-Gonzalez and Raul Eduardo Martinez Lujan. Warrants of arrest were issued for both Salas-Gonzalez and Martinez Lujan charging them with Smuggling of Person.  Both offenders were arrested on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 and are being held under a $40,000 bond.

Narcotics Arrest

NEWS RELEASE: El Paso, Texas – On December 14th, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit conducted an investigation reference the sale of Fentanyl at a residence located at the 5000 block of Trowbridge. Based on information received, a search warrant was executed at the residence. Approximately  290 grams of Methamphetamines, 155 grams of Fentanyl, 8.6 grams of cocaine, 1.83 grams of MDMA, 3 grams of Heroin, Adderall, Xanax, THX, one firearm, and over $6000 were seized. Robert Battles, age 34 was taken into custody and was booked into the El Paso County Detention on the following charges:

Most Wanted Arrest

NEWS RELEASE: El Paso, Texas - On December 12th, 2021,  the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Warrants & Fugitive Apprehension Unit were conducting an investigation in reference to a wanted subject at the 10300 block of Whyburn in El Paso County TX. Subject Joel Gonzales, age 37 was wanted in El Paso County for Driving while Intoxicated 3rd or More and was featured in the El Paso Most Wanted for the week of 05-05-2021. During the investigation, deputies observed a male subject resembling Gonzales attempt to leave the residence through the back door of the residence. Deputies attempted to make contact with the male subject who ran back inside the residence in an attempt to conceal himself.  The male subject positively identified as Gonzalez subsequently surrendered to deputies without incident and was taken into custody. Gonzalez was booked  the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond of $100,000.

TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST

December 15, 2021

El Paso, Texas On December 14, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Montana Patrol deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Buffalo Bill and Krag St. Upon contact with the driver, deputies detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded marijuana, cocaine, and several weapons. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Angel Manuel Botello. He was arrested and charged with Unlawful Carrying of Weapons, Tampering with Evidence, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Additionally, Angel Manuel Botello had three criminal warrants with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office for two counts of Burglary of Habitation and one count of Criminal Trespass.

Santa with a Badge Toy Giveaway

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Section has been very busy filling orders for toy requests for the little children in the County of El Paso.  Within the last two days they filled 700 orders making little ones happy.  The children are from the Montana Vista, Red Sands, Tornillo and Horizon area.  They will continue working with Santa collecting toys and filling Christmas wishes from our little friends in the community.

2021 ANNUAL TOY DRIVE – BIG BODY BOMBS AND FLAGS ACROSS AMERICA

December 13, 2021

El Paso, Texas On December 12th 2021, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Community Services along with Commander Ryan Urrutia attended the 1st Annual Car Show Toy Drive hosted by Big Body Bombs Car Club and Flags Across America at 9550 Gateway Blvd N. The Sheriff’s Office has been very fortunate to have several organizations help with Santa with a Badge Toy Drive. The event had beautiful cars and trucks displayed for the public to enjoy. Participants and community people donated lots and lots of toys for the County of El Paso children. The Sheriff’s Office is very proud and thankful to these organizations that have come together to be so generous to all these El Paso County Children that are now more in need than ever.
