Mission Ridge Elementary High Five Friday

El Paso, Texas - On Friday, January 13th, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies assigned at the East Montana Patrol Station and deputies from the Traffic Section arrived at Mission Ridge Elementary School for the Sheriff's Office traditional "High Five Friday." Deputies greeted students with a high five or fist bump while wishing them a great day. Students returned the high five, and some reached out to give deputies a hug thanking them for their service. In addition, deputies are appreciated by the faculty and invited for coffee with the administration.

PSA - Motor Vehicle Accident On Transmountain Rd.

January 14, 2023

El Paso, Texas - On January 14th, 2023, at approximately 1:00 pm., El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to Loop 375, Mile Marker 19, on Transmountain Rd., in reference to a single Motor Vehicle accident involving a motorcycle. Both individuals on the motorcycle were transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries. Please try to avoid the area for the next couple of hours. No further information is available at this time.

ARREST AT THE 3600 BLOCK OF JOHN CHRISTOPHER DR.

January 13, 2023

El Paso, Texas - On January 11, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Montana Patrol Station conducted a traffic stop at the 3600 block of John Christopher Drive. As the vehicle came to a stop, the three occupants immediately fled on foot. Deputies were able to locate and apprehend all three subjects after a brief foot pursuit. The subjects were identified as 40-year-old Mayra Garcia, 18-year-old James Reyes, and a juvenile offender. The two adult offenders were arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Garcia was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention, Resisting Arrest, Search or Transportation, Failure to Identify, and an outstanding criminal warrant. Reyes was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention. The juvenile offender was referred to the El Paso County Juvenile Probation Department.

EL PASO, TEXAS – Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc., distributes fugitives wanted by the El Paso Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office every week through the Most Wanted feature.  The attached fugitives are individuals, where attempts in locating them for one reason or another have been unsuccessful.  The agencies submit these fugitives to Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc., which distributes them to the news media and offers the use of the Crime Stoppers hotline for information regarding the whereabouts of these fugitives.  Anyone with information on the location of any of these fugitives should call Crime Stoppers of El Paso immediately at (915) 566-8477 (TIPS), or submit the information on-line at www.crimestoppersofelpaso.org.  You will remain anonymous, and if your tip leads to an arrest, you can qualify for a cash reward.  Crime Stoppers of El Paso, Inc., is a non-profit organization that brings together the community, law enforcement, and the media to solve crime.

ASSAULT ON A PEACE OFFICER on the 1000 BLOCK OF CELUM

January 13, 2023

El Paso, Texas - On January 11th, 2023, an El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputy assigned to the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station conducted a traffic stop on the 1000 block of Celum, El Paso County, Texas. The Deputy recognized the vehicle's driver as 28-year-old Raul Rangel, who had several outstanding criminal warrants with the Sheriff's Office. As Rangel exited the vehicle and he began assaulting the Deputy. After a brief struggle, Rangel was taken into custody. The Deputy sustained minor injuries.

Rangel was arrested for the outstanding criminal warrants and two additional charges of Assault on a Peace Officer with a bond of $2,000.00 and Interfering with Public Duties with a bond of $500.00. Rangel was booked into the El Paso County Jail without further incident.

Surprise Visit at NORTHWEST PATROL Station from Walmart for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

El Paso, Texas - On January 11, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Northwest Patrol Station had a surprise visit from one of the local Neighborhood Walmart’s. Walmart employees stopped by to drop off drinks and snacks to show their support and appreciation for Law Enforcement. We thanked them and expressed that this shows the excellent relationship between our community and Law Enforcement.

Insurance Fraud Arrest

January 10, 2023

El Paso, Texas - On January 10th, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Detectives assigned to the FBI West Texas Border Corruption Task Force arrested 41-year-old Isela Reyes for Insurance Fraud (Over $2,500 – Under $30,000.00). Isela Reyes is currently the Mayor of San Elizario. The arrest stems from an investigation in which the Sheriff’s Office received information that Reyes filed a false insurance claim. Reyes was booked into the El Paso County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond. It should be noted that the offense occurred prior to Reyes becoming the Mayor of San Elizario; however, the FBI West Texas Border Corruption Task Force was involved since she is currently a public official.

NEW ADDITION TO SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS

EL PASO, TEXAS - Sheriff Richard D. Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office would like to announce our partnership with another area school to the community. The Sheriff's Office is beginning a partnership with the Tornillo Independent School District; this is an addition to the Sheriff's Office School Resource Program, which has been in place for eight years and includes Clint, San Elizario, and Fabens school districts. Patrol Division Commander Ryan Urrutia has been able to grow the program over the past eight years, from nine School Resource Officers in two school districts to twenty School Resource Officers in four school districts. The program serves as a security measure for the campuses, mentorship of students, education on social media postings, drug education awareness, and consciousness to parents and staff. Commander Ryan Urrutia, who leads the School Resource Officers Team, would like to remind parents and staff in our community that we are working to ensure our children have the safest educational environment to learn and grow.

UPDATE - Motor vehicle accident on Gateway East & Nuevo HUECO RD

El Paso, Texas UPDATE - At this time driver has been identified as 28-year-old Diego Chavez of the 800 block of Troy in El Paso County Texas. This is the first traffic fatality in El Paso County for 2023 compared to 0 in 2022 at this same time.

El Paso, TexasOn January 4, 2023, at approximately 4:40 am, El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to Gateway East and Nuevo Hueco Tanks Road regarding a single motor vehicle accident with serious injuries involving a motorcycle. Special Traffic Investigators are investigating the incident. There is a roadway closure at i-10 east at the Eastlake offramp. Gateway east from loop 365 to Eastlake will be closed for the next four hours. No further information is available at this time.
