Accreditation


The National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) Accreditation Program has the explicit purpose of improving the quality of the forensic/medicolegal investigation of death. Accreditation is an endorsement by NAME that the office provides an adequate environment in which a forensic pathologist may practice the profession, and provides reasonable assurances that the system well serves its jurisdiction

 

Notice: Internship program now accepting applications


The El Paso County is proud to offer an unpaid internship that allows proper exposure to different aspects of forensic pathology and medicolegal death investigation, as well as opportunities for academic development. Applicants must be at least in their third year in college and contact our Chief of Operations (Irene Santiago: isantiago@epcounty.com) with 1) a letter of intent, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) copy of highest level of education degree or unofficial transcripts 4) copy of the DD-214 form, (if prior military) 5) three professional references (no letters of recommendation) and 6) area of interest (select one, morgue or investigative division). This office does not have internships for anthropology, odontology or forensic laboratory.

Deadline for applications are as follows:
Spring internships-November 30th
Summer internships-April 30th
Fall internships-July 31st

The space is very limited and applications are considered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Only two internships area available each semester per division (2-Investigations 2-Morgue) and are subject to change due to the ongoing pandemic.

To be considered for the internship position, applicants must:

  • pass a background check
  • ability to commit a minimum of 20 hours a week
  • investigations will require shifts (24/7 operation)
  • morgue will require time from 0800 to noon, Monday thru Thursday
