  • Volunteers are the lifeline of our organization. Whether your roots are in San Elizario or you are just interested in this historic little town, please consider volunteering your time to SEGHS. We need volunteers to work in our museum which is visited by tourists from all over the world. We also need volunteers to help us with our events held throughout the year.

  • San Elizario is the site of the First Thanksgiving in what is now the United States – 23 years before Plymouth Rock. During the Salt War in the mid 1800’s, Texas Rangers were jailed in the historic jail, the only time they have ever been taken prisoners. It is also the site of the only time Billy the Kid broke into a jail. Read all about these events in our history section.
