Stop Child Abuse License Plates Now Available
The state of Texas now offers Stop Child Abuse specialty license plates.
The plates help promote child abuse awareness and generate revenue to the local chapter of the child welfare board.
You can purchase a plate at any El Paso County Tax Assessor Collector’s locations or online, go to www.texasonline.com and click on "Order- Specialty License Plates." The Stop Child Abuse plate should appear in the listing under "Organizations." You will then be directed to enter information to place your order. Plates may be purchased for any of the following classes of vehicles: Passenger, Truck, Motorcycle, Trailer, or Travel Trailer.
- Plates cost $30 above the normal registration fee. According to the Texas Department of Transportation web site, $22 of fee "goes to the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services to fund programs and services supporting abused and neglected children." That is based upon the language in the statute (when the Department of Family and Protective Services was still PRS) authorizing sale of the plates. However, arrangements have been made for the $22 to be directed to the Texas Council of Child Welfare Boards (TCCWB) and for about $18 of that to be directed to child welfare board in the county of sale. All plates may also be personalized for an additional charge, but all of that cost is retained by TxDOT.
