Requesting Birth, Death Certificates, Marriage License Copies by Mail

- BIRTH CERTIFICATES BY MAIL
- Applicant must be a "qualified" applicant. The individual his/herself, parent, sibling or grandparent. The following are not considered qualified: Aunts/uncles, stepchildren unless adopted. Half brothers and sisters must be related by having the same mother

- - The applicant must submit the following:
- - Letter must provide the following information

- 1. A signed letter, or application making the request
- - Birth name
- - Date of birth
- - Name of father, maiden name of mother
- - Hospital where born or place of birth
- - The purpose or reason the certificate is needed
- - Relationship of person making the request to the person whose certificate is needed. i.e., mother or father requesting for child
- - Letter must be signed

- 2. A photocopy of an ID (drivers license, state or military ID etc.). This is to identify the person making the request

- 3. A money order for the cost of the birth certificate(s). Cost is $23.00 per certified copy(El Paso County births only)

- 4. Births for outside El Paso County are $23.00(subject to availability of internet connection to Austin). It is recommended that births in Texas Counties other than El Paso be obtained from the county where recorded.

- All the above should be mailed to the following address:

- - Birth certificates are usually mailed back to the applicant within 7 days of receipt

- - To expedite the receipt of birth certificates by mail:
- 1. Only the (USPS) United States Postal Service will be accepted and used for overnight express. Any other overnight carrier will be rejected. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- 2. One is addressee from the applicant to and the other is addressed from back to the applicant.
- 3. The mailer addressed to the County Clerk should include all of the above requirements along with the self-addressed mailer.
- 4. These requests are processed immediately upon receipt and turnaround is immediate

- DEATH CERTIFICATES BY MAIL
- Applicant must be a "qualified" applicant: The informant, surviving spouse (if not divorced), parent, sibling or grandparent. The following are not considered qualified: Aunts/uncles, stepchildren unless adopted. Half brothers and sisters must be related by having the same mother.

- The applicant must submit the following:

- A signed letter or application making the request. Letter must provide the following information:
- 1. Legal name at time of death
- 2. Date of death, date of birth if known
- 3. Name of father, maiden name of mother
- 4. Place of death
- 5. The purpose or reason the certificate is needed
- 6. Relationship of person making the request to the person whose certificate is needed. i.e., mother or father requesting for child. Son or daughter requesting for parent
- 7. Letter must be signed

- - A photocopy of an ID(drivers license, state or military ID etc.). This is to identify the person making the request
- - A money order for the cost of the death certificate(s). Cost is $21.00 per certified copy. Any additional copies are $4.00 each. i.e., a request for two copies would be a total of $25.00
- - All the above should be mailed to the following address:

- MARRIAGE LICENSE COPIES BY MAIL
- Any applicant may apply for a certified copy of a marriage license. They are open records. The cost is $7.00, issued with a raised seal.

- The applicant must submit the following:
- - Date of Marriage
- - Name of Male on license
- - Name of Female on license. NOTE: Marriages are indexed by only the above information. Less than all three of the above and difficulty may arise in accurately identifying the record.
- - A money order for $7.00, payable to El Paso County Clerk.

- Certified copies are usually mailed out within 7 days.
