The Chief Medical Examiner provides oversight and leadership in directing a wide and challenging scope of operations for the county’s medical examiner’s office under the County Commissioners Court. The incumbent directs department personnel, performs examinations and autopsies; testifies in court proceedings; signs official documents; creates and carries out strategic plans and policies, and ensures administrative duties for department are carried out. Establishes goals and objectives for the office and insures compliance with licensing and rules and regulations as set forth by the Criminal Codes of Texas and the State Board of Medical Examiners. The ideal candidate will have graduated from an accredited medical college or university with a Doctor of Medicine Degree. Must have, or be able to obtain within a reasonable time from selection, a Texas Medical License. Must be American Board of Pathology certified in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology. Eight years Medical Examiner experience, including three years management experience.
