Part of our desire is to make El Paso an eco-tourism hub, a place where visitors and natives alike can take advantage of our great outdoor assets. In an effort to showcase one of our outdoor assets, we are hosting our first annual Movies by the Lake at our renovated Ascarate Park. We encourage families to come enjoy a free movie by the Lake and experience some of the best food trucks in town ready to present you with a unique and creative menu! We hope to see you there!
Rio Grande River Revitalization Initiative
In an effort to reclaim what has been neglected for so long, our office has embarked on a bold and exciting initiative to restore and save the historic Rio Grande River from further degradation. Due to channelization and lack of water, the once beautiful and majestic Rio Grande River has become a forgotten and undervalued asset to the community.
The proposal to revitalize and beautify the Rio Grande is an initiative of our office's Eco-Tourism Committee, whose task it is to design and develop strategies for better promoting and enhancing the natural assets El Paso has to offer. Through this committee came the Rio Grande Revitalization Initiative, which will bring together stakeholders from the local, state and federal sectors to create a blueprint for revitalizing our river. This much needed investment will improve quality of life amenities for underutilized communities, increase economic opportunities, increase property values, boost tourism, and promotes opportunities for a healthier lifestyle. We will keep you updated as we make progress and provide information on opportunities for you to get involved and be a part of this historic process.
