On March 22, 2021, the El Paso County Commissioners Court voted to establish an El Paso County Redistricting Advisory Commission which will map the Commissioner and Justice of the Peace precincts based on 2020 Census data.

These new precinct maps will remain in place for the next 10 years or until the 2030 U.S. Census data is released. These maps will specify will area of the County each elected County Commissioner and Justice of the Peace will represent.

The 11-member Commission will be comprised of two appointees from each Commissioners Court member, and the 11th member will be the chair of the El Paso County Ethics Commission.

Starting in June the Commission will have monthly meetings in preparation for the release of the Census data. The maps or precinct boundaries will be drawn based on public input, population count and will fulfill all federal, state and local voting rights laws.

The Commission’s final map recommendation will be presented to the El Paso County Commissioners Court, which has the sole authority to approve the final precinct maps in advance of the 2021 election cycle.
