- Commander Vargas
Commander Marco A. Vargas was born in El Paso, Texas and raised in Los Angeles, California. After serving in the United States Navy, he began his law enforcement career with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in September of 1997. He rose through the ranks serving as a Detention Officer, Patrolman, Field Training Officer, Vice Crimes, Background Investigator, Sergeant in both Patrol on shift and in Bike Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions, and as a Lieutenant also in the Patrol and Criminal Investigations Divisions. He was also the team leader for the Crisis Negotiations Team.
Commander Vargas holds a dual Master’s degree in Criminal Justice and Public Administration from Sul Ross State University, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Psychology from Park University. He holds a Master Peace Officer and Instructor Proficiency certifications from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and has over 2000 hours of law enforcement specific training. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Institute of Texas Leadership Command College. He is a volunteer for the Texas Special Olympics participating in the annual torch runs and for March of Dimes.
